Dr Lynch was an editor on the first Computer Psychology Journal, has written numerous articles on the psychology of human computer interaction, artificial intelligence, the effects of technology on personality, society and children, technology in the classroom and ethics in technology. He consulted with the US Department of Education on technology in the classroom and helped develop the plan for the 21st Century Classroom. His work on Psychology of computers became a lynchpin in the development of Gamification, the use of computer game theory and techniques in social and job skills teaching and training methods. He has been recently focused on writing and speaking about applying Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality to teaching and training. He has been the subject of articles in the Wall Street journal, the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Atlanta Constitution, the San Francisco Chronicle, Psychology Today, Omni Magazine and more. Lots of folks are sick of the Black Friday hype. Black Friday is just too much. Some stores even start it on Thanksgiving Day at dinner time, causing some employees to miss time with the family and die hard shoppers to miss Thanksgiving Dinner. I saw one store is opening at 2PM Thanksgiving Day!!! It was bad enough when Black Friday was limited to actual Friday, now it's Thursday too? This is just insane. Then there are all the crowds to deal with, all the pushing and shoving for that "special deal". And for what? Most "Bargains" aren't really bargains at all. Of course. Gaming computers are after all computers, just better, faster, more powerful, better quality ones. In fact, gaming computers make excellent work computers because they will outperform those cheap desktops from the big box store or office supply store or those folks online that specialize in cheap machines meaning you will get more work done faster which will leave you more time to be creative and may even get you out of the office on time for a change.

Are gaming computers good for photo editing

Absolutely! Gaming computers have to have the latest, best graphics cards and CPUs (at least Psychsoftpc Gaming Computers do) and all that is important in photo editing, 3D modeling and rendering, 4K photo editing and display, even Virtual Reality. What We Know

Detailed descriptions from Intel of how Optane works are still sketchy but a basic picture is emerging from what Intel and Micron have said about the technology. The memory has a kind of three-dimensional lattice structure. Stackable layers have wires arranged in either rows or columns, and at the intersection of each row and column is the actual storage element which is an unspecified material that can change its resistance to different values. The details of how it does this are unclear. While Intel has said it is not a phase-change material, it hasn't said exactly what it is.

Most importantly, this resistance change is persistent meaning that once a cell has had its value set, it will continue to hold that value indefinitely, even if the system loses power or is shut down. While we don't know how the resistance change works, we do know that unlike DRAM, each data cell does not need any transistors, which means that Optane Memory is a lot denser than DRAM, from four to ten times as dense according to various reports.

The value stored in each data cell can also be written and rewritten relatively easily. NAND flash requires a very high voltage to erase each cell, which allows a cell to be written only once before it needs to be erased again. Optane Memory cells, however, can have their stored value updated between 1 and 0 and back again without needing any erasure step.

The Truth About Those $500 "Virtual Reality Ready" Gaming Computers

You may have read about the "Big News" out of this year's CES that a company (not us) will offer "sometime in the future" a "Virtual Reality Ready Gaming PC" capable of powering an Oculus Rift headset for under $500. You may have even noticed that this company is calling this machine the Gamer Xtreme, yet again plagiarizing from us and coming close to violating our Trademarks in the process (yes we hold the Extreme Gamer Trademark for our Psyborg Extreme Gamer PC). That Oculus is a party to this plagiarism and violation of us is disturbing but not all surprising. Google has ignored these incidents for years. So to clarify, this "Gamer Xtreme" is not our offering, we would never build such a cheap machine. We take pride in the quality of our machines and what we put in them.

Forgive the rant. The real reason for this post is to examine the truth behind the technology. While Oculus and other PC makers may cry "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain," just like Dorothy we are going to pull it back and expose the Wizard for what he is. The truth is that now ANY PC even low end ones can run Oculus Rift VR, well sort of. It doesn't really run it like it was originally designed to do. It doesn't run it on high specs smoothly powered solely by the hardware of the computer. The truth is that on a low end machine, it is all smoke and mirrors. And you could take that quite literally. Oculus Rift didn't come up with new hardware or even change their current device. The trick, and it is a trick, is in the software. The new software is designed to sense when a computer's hardware just can't keep up and is about to drop a fame. When it senses that, it substitutes a copy of the previous frame in to compensate. A neat software trick, mirroring the previous frame to appear as though the computer is doing its job. It is also designed to blur edges on the periphery on low end machines to save CPU and GPU cycles, that's the smoke part. So on a low end machine you get mirrored frames and blurry images, but you do get Virtual Reality.

So there you have it, the truth behind the curtain. Remember that the next time you see an article hyping these low end machines. Smoke and mirrors are great for magic tricks, but do you really want them in your technology?
