Hello, I'm Tim Lynch, and I'm reaching out to you with a story of
resilience and hope. Unfortunately, on September 3, 2023 I fell victim
to an elder scam when someone got hold of my debit card and stole
$19,000 from me, gambling away my money at a local casino, a significant
blow, especially given my health challenges. I believe this date was
specifically chosen because it was the Sunday of a long weekend and the
crooks figured they would not be discovered until Tuesday by which time
all my money would be gone. Luckily I checked my bank account on line,
noticed the massive withdrawals and canceled my debit card.
You see, I have a heart condition that makes even simple tasks like
walking a real challenge, and I battle extreme leg swelling (edema)
daily. Before this incident, I relied on my debit card to have groceries
and essentials delivered to my doorstep. I do not have a credit card
and am totally dependent on the debit card and my money in the bank. Now
someone was stealing it before my very eyes. I was overwhelmed. My
heart was racing. What was I to do.
But here's where your kindness and support come into play. I had to
cancel my debit card in a panic to stop further unauthorized
withdrawals and spending, which means I can't even afford to put food on
the table right now. I have been subsisting on #PopTarts since the
incident. I wonder if they had the steak and lobster at the casino on
me. It's a tough situation to be in, and it's disheartening to think
someone could commit such a heartless act. I am not sure if they is evil
or just extremely selfish and egotistical.
